We adopted Sophie at Pet Fest October 6th, 2007. (She was then known as "Betty" and was in a crate with her brother "Fred".) She was 4 months old. We have a soft spot for beagles, and Sophie certainly looks mostly beagle. The vet thinks she is part terrier. She has been a sweet dog and she sheds very little which is an added bonus. She has lots of energy and loves to romp in the fall leaves and now in the December snow! My daughters just love her. We are attending puppy classes and she is catching on quickly. I am so glad we adopted Sophie. She is a great addition to our family and she taught my daughters a great lesson. Great puppies don't have to be pure bred!! Cheryl F.
Hi Ladies!
My husband and I wanted to thank you for all of the great work that you do at the southside shelter. If it were not for people like you, we may never have found such a wonderful addition to our family! We adopted Bailey (Boomer) on August 24th. He has adapted well to his new home and his new brother Duncan. They love to run circles in the back yard and lay out in the sun watching the birds! Bailey has the sweetest disposition and is having a positive affect on calming Duncan and his super energetic personality. I hope that all of the animals in your care can find happy and loving homes like Bailey has.

Dear Indy Southside Shelter: Just writing to let you know that Jingles, who we adopted back in June, is doing great in Bloomington, IN. Thanks to everyone at the shelter and especially Shannon, who was his foster mom. We're extremely grateful to have had the chance to make Jingles (we call him Jack for short) a part of our family, and he seems happier and more comfortable with each passing month. Thank you!! Here are a couple pictures from the last few weeks. --John & Sarah
¨<> Hello, My family adopted Hurley from Southside Animal Shelter in March 2007. Hurley was just a puppy, and one of the last left in his litter. We were told his mom was a border collie, but father unknown. Whatever the mix may be, we couldn't be happier with him! When we brought him home, he was so fat and furry he looked like a little bear cub bounding across the yard. My two year old son was delighted when he saw him, and although Hurley was a little uncertain that first day, they quickly became fast friends. Now, as Hurley is approaching his first birthday, I am so happy that we found him. Although he certainly has a "big dog" bark, he is a loving, caring dog that is social, mellow and extremely friendly. If any of us is ever under the weather, you'll find Hurley right by our side, refusing to budge, protecting us until we feel better. He loves playing too, with other dogs, cats, and people - anything that shows an interest - but is never rough or demonstrates any type of aggressiveness. He is also extremely smart and is proud to demonstrate tricks when it suits him! I just wanted to let you know how happy we are to have found him, and send you a recent picture of that little furball that you had in your pen with his brothers and sisters. I really believe that we found the perfect dog for us, and hope that Hurley feels the same way. Thank you, Sarah S.
Just wanted to thank you ladies for your time and advice today when my husband and I came out to find our Bailey Rose (Zena to you guys) a playmate.
It’s crazy that it has been a year already since we adopted her from you guys after her and her 2 siblings were found in a dumpster.
She is amazing and is one spoiled big baby. She is still as rambunctious as she was when we picked her out a year ago. Here are a few pictures to update. The 1st one is from her 1st day home with us a year ago and now at over 60 pounds, our big baby. Thanks again! Jessica and Brian F.
We adopted Chewbaca from your Shelter last year in February. We call him Chewy now. When we first brought him home, he chewed on everything. He is doing much better now. He loves to play and cuddle. We love him a lot and look forward to many happy years ahead with him. Just wanted to give you an update. Have a great day!
